A useful centre to the room, with the everyday things close at hand.

The room.

The kitchen needed to hold the working day as comfortably as a slow Sunday breakfast. The garden outlook mattered, but so did somewhere for pans, provisions and the small things that otherwise gather on a worktop.

The furniture.

Painted perimeter cabinets keep the edges of the room quiet. The oak island gives preparation and storage a place of their own, with drawers facing the working side and seating at the end. Cabinet widths and the internal storage were resolved together, rather than choosing the outside first.

The part you touch every day.

Natural oak drawer fronts, dovetailed drawer boxes and nickel cup pulls. The stone edge is deliberately quiet, leaving the grain and the proportions of the cabinetry to carry the room.
